New 2DS XL Capture Card Mail-in Installation Service

This is a mail-in service. You provide the console.

What is it?

This is a hardware-based capture card that works by reading the video and audio signals straight off the console's motherboard. That data is then sent to your PC via USB and a viewer software. Anything that you see on your N2DS XL will show up in the viewer.

The specific capture card used is Loopy (aka 3DSCapture)'s New 3DS XL capture card.

Installation:

Since this is using a kit designed for the N3DS XL, not the N2DS XL, wires are soldered directly from the capture card to the motherboard. The wires are kept as neat as can be, so servicing in the future (if needed), won't be difficult.

Aside from that, the only external change is the USB-C port. The USB-C port replaces the original charge port, and instead of being attached to the motherboard, it is attached to the back cover and connected to the capture card (which is connected to the motherboard) via a FFC and FFC connectors. This also makes it easier to service in the future.

Viewer Software:

The capture card doesn't show up like other capture cards or cameras. The included viewer software is required. There is an official Windows version of the software, but for other operating systems, use "cc3dsfs." cc3dsfs works on Mac, Linux, and Raspberry Pi.

Charging:

The USB-C port is still able to charge the console. When you are using the capture card, the charge speed is reduced to prioritize power going to the capture card itself.

Disclaimers:

There is some latency. I don't know the exact amount, but when held side by side (console and monitor), you can tell it is a few frames. I used to play SSB4 online using the viewer output and had a good experience, but you may be more sensitive to it. Loopy's is about a frame faster (out of 60 per second) than Optimize's. cc3dsfs may also reduce some of it as well.

Turnaround Time: I do have a full-time laborious job, and this installation requires microsoldering, which requires precision. I do these installations on days when I'm not tired and fatigued so that I avoid damaging your console, which is likely very expensive to replace. All this to say please be patient. It will take several weeks. I don't always reply, especially if I don't have an update for you.

Return policy: 30 days after delivery. You will be required to send your console back for me to remove the capture card. I will send it back to you afterwards.

Repair policy: No charge for port replacements, just cover shipping. For replacing the capture board, cover the cost of the board if after 30 days of delivery. For other issues, please send me a message.

If you need other minor repairs prior to installing the capture card, let me know. Some repairs are easy and I'll do them at no extra charge, like a circle pad replacement or button swaps.
